History

While serving as an assistant pastor to his father in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Robert Lehn felt a burden and a desire to plant a new church by God’s grace. Because of a need expressed by several individuals in his wife’s hometown, the Aiken-Augusta area was laid before the Lord. As some doors closed and others opened, Robert, Kay, and baby Adrienne moved to Augusta and saw God’s gracious hand directing and providing. The first service of Westside Baptist Church was held at Augusta Christian Schools on July 10, 1983, with 40 in attendance.

In 1985, the Lord led the church family to purchase about 5 acres of land on
Flowing Wells Road. Westside’s present auditorium was built in 1986, with many Westside members offering their time and abilities during construction. Having a building to call home was a cause for thanksgiving to the Lord.

An activity center
was built in 1991 and a Sunday school building in 2002.

As we thank God for the visible, material growth of the church, we thank Him above all for the invisible work of His Spirit. Through the years, God has used His Word to grow this Body in the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of His Son. A growing desire for Christ is evident, and many Westside members lovingly serve the Lord in various ministries. It is the prayer of the Westside church family that many will come to know Christ as Savior and Lord through the testimony and outreach of this ministry.
